6-7 July 2026, Geneva. The first time the UN General Assembly has convened governments, private sector, academia, and civil society specifically to discuss AI governance. The Independent International Scientific Panel on AI will also present its preliminary report during the event.
Speakers include UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany, and senior representatives from ITU and the UN's Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies. Sessions will be livestreamed on UN WebTV.
Estonia is building digital identities for AI agents
Estonia is planning official digital identities for AI agents.. defining exactly what each agent is authorised to do, on whose behalf, with full auditability. The PM's framing says it all: "It must be clear who is acting on whose behalf with what rights, and who is ultimately responsible."
Most organisations deploying agentic AI haven't answered that question yet. Estonia is building national infrastructure for it.
Workday must face AI bias lawsuit in California
A federal judge refused to dismiss discrimination claims against Workday, whose AI screening tools allegedly rejected applicants based on age, disability, and race. The case is now asking whether AI vendors, not just employers, are liable for discriminatory outcomes.
"We used software" is not a defence. AI vendors can potentially be held legally accountable for discriminatory outcomes produced by their hiring systems, even when they are not the employer making the final hiring decision.
